At Lucas House in Rugby YMCA offer housing and support for homeless young people aged 16-24 years old. Within the project there are four dedicated resident support staff and two night workers who work alongside residents to provide a package of individually tailored support. Lucas House is a hostel for young people, who may be in particular circumstances that they have become estranged, or seeking to live independently, or leaving care, or be young people at risk and be vulnerable.

YMCA aims, through its selection policy, to maintain a balanced community within its accommodation. A further criteria for the selection is that the young person contributes to the maintenance of a balanced community within the accommodation.

Lucas House provides a wide range of support such as help into full time education, in setting up and maintaining a home, in developing domestic skills and life skills, along with social skills.

Staff liaise with other agencies to get the best possible package of care for the individual needs.

Residents are encouraged to explore different activities such as painting, drawing and photography and tap into their creativity in art classes. Staff work within the ethos that young people, some who have failed to benefit from the usual education process can be motivated by involvement in the creative process.

Other activities that young people are involved in within the hostel are five aside football and the YMCA is committed to ensuring they have the rights, respect and opportunities they deserve.
